About Me
John VanDuinen has been playing and performing music since 5th grade, starting with the Snare Drum. He got a drum set for Christmas when he was in 6th grade and became obsessed with Music. Throughout High School, John performed with the Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Musicals, and Talent Shows. He was named the All-State Jazz Percussionist in Michigan during his Senior year and went on to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Jazz Performance. During this time, he also learned the Guitar, Bass, Piano, and all instruments for a typical Band class and obtained Teacher Certification.
After graduating, he began teaching in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan at a small school for the arts before moving to New York City to pursue performing and teaching in the big city. While teaching Jazz Band and General Music at the Heritage School, he also attended Teachers College at Columbia University, graduating with a Masters of Fine Arts in Music and Music Education.
After completing his Masters, John and his family moved to Duvall, Washington to settle down. He currently teaches Jazz Band, Band, and Audio Engineering at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle and has recently started the Duvall Music Academy to further music education in the Snoqualmie Valley region.
